I can't say enough good things about this book! It was phenomanal! Not only was she honest about her experience, but she seem genuinely sincere in her desire to help other homeschool moms. What I appreciated the most was her chapter on depression. This chapter resonated with me because I am a first generation homeschool survivor, and my mother became severely depressed the second year she started to homeschool, and she's never quite recovered. This is the level of honesty that is needed for a homeschool mom-to acknowledge depression in your life, own it, and find a way to overcome.She starts the book with chapters on each of the areas she considers to be "meek and quiet spirit robbers"-fear, disorganization, and anger (for the most part). I should have grabbed the book before starting this review, but my object wasn't to have the best review, rather to add to the quantity of good reviews so as to point out the value of this book. It is worth the money. And it is absolutely worth the time spent reading.
If I have anything negative to say about this, it's small things like her recommendations to nurse an infant on a schedule (something I will never do nor agree with). That, however, is a lifestyle choice and has absolutely no effect on my overall rating. The book was amazing. Great for the beginning homeschooler, the "thinking about it" homeschooler, and the seasoned homeschooler. And since she also includes some amazing parenting tips, you really don't even need to be a homeschooler to glean wisdom from this book.

I started off liking this book, and then it got very preachy and legalistic. Not exactly what I was expecting from a homeschool book. I do not recommend this. It's since gone in the Goodwill pile.
What an honest refreshing read. I loved most of this book and appreciated the authors humble and loving spirit. I purchased this the day after reading one I borrowed from a friend. I knew I would want this on hand to read over and over again- what I great uplifting message full of reminders we all could benefit from. Thank you Teri Maxwell!
This is an encouraging book, but almost all the columns can be read for free on her website. It's also a little "extreme." If you are really struggling as a homeschooler, especially one with many children, this might be a great encouragement, but it kind of depressed me.
This is a book for any mother, homeschooler or not. All problems that Christian mothers face are only magnified when trying to also take on their children's education. The book focuses less on homeschool "quick fixes" and more on the mother's heart and temperament, which applies whether teaching reading, doing art projects, or making dinner. While these loving nudges towards godliness will bear much fruit in homeschooling, they are not limited to homeschooling. A perfect read for when you're discouraged and overwhelmed with the responsibility of teaching your kiddos!
Amazing book. Short. Well written. Powerful. Life changing. Full of scripture.
When a friend handed me this book a few years ago I inwardly rolled my eyes. Really? Meek and quiet? You mean, like a mouse?
I was way off base.
This book has been a life changer. Every time I read it I'm all the more grateful to the Maxwell family for making this available and the Holy Spirit for leading them to do so. A must read for every homeschooling mom and family.
This is a nice, easy read. Each chapter has some questions and activities at the end to get you to think and pin point areas that you need to change. This helped me address some attitudes that I had, and give me some ideas about how I could go about changing them. It's not super in depth, or a replacement for learning and applying scripture for yourself, but it does point out some common joy-quenchers in the life of a homeschooling mom, and really, any mom.
This was NOT a "fluffy" book with great ideas and thoughts but not much substance. I very much identified with many of the authors struggles as a home schooling mom and was really glad to see a chapter about depression. The struggles are real, we are not alone, we do not need to be ashamed of the bend of our personality and how that plays out, but the author constantly point us to Jesus and the Word and challenges that we not stay stagnant but seek to improve. What makes this different from other similar books are the questions at the end of the chapters. What a great way to put the chapter into action (to be a doer of the book and not just a reader) and to help you evaluate your own home, schooling, thoughts and attitudes.
